Zena Holloway
Photon Portfolio Award, May 1996
Starting in May, Photon magazine is making a 'portfolio award' each month.
Our first photographer is Zena Holloway, who benefits from a fine-art
four page center section in the magazine, also provided in the form of a
1,000 run-on. The layout and style of the portfolio are non-commercial,
have no product or related mentions, and include the photographer's contact
details.
Zena Holloway is a self-taught photographer, and a qualified scuba instructor.
She uses both conventional silver film and digital manipulation to produce
her distinctive and original images - we have all seen pictures of babies
underwater, we've all seen great coral reef shots, but the combination of
babies in highly plausible fantasy situations underwater is amusing and
delightfully simple. So are Zena's 'families' and 'couples'.
You'll want to see all these superb photos in high res form (don't worry,
most are landscape format, and sub-50Kb JPEGs - only the cover picture from
our May issue, above, and one other are over the 100Kb mark). Please respect
Zena's copyright in these images as she has allowed them to be used with
any watermarking or other safeguards against unauthorised printing.

Zena spent some time working in Grand Cayman, in the tourist industry,
shooting videos and underwater stills. After returning to London, she has
published five of her images as postcards, but like so many original talents,
she's yet to find a client with an original need for her work. Her big break
has yet to come, and we hope that this portfolio in Photon may help her
on the way.
